School Overview

Founded in 1897, Soongsil University is recognized as South Korea's first modern university. The Soongsil University Korean Language Institute (KLI) is a highly respected language center designed to provide international students with practical Korean communication skills, a deep understanding of Korean culture, and preparation for undergraduate or graduate study in Korea.

Located in Dongjak-gu, central Seoul, the campus directly connects to Soongsil University Station (Subway Line 7), making it incredibly convenient for students to commute and explore the city.

Curriculum & Program Structure

Soongsil KLI offers a systematic curriculum divided into six levels (Levels 1 to 6), aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and the national TOPIK standard.

  • Beginner (Levels 1-2): Focuses on basic Hangul, day-to-day communication, ordering food, and navigating public transportation.
  • Intermediate (Levels 3-4): Develops skills to discuss general social topics, read simple news articles, and handle daily transactions independently.
  • Advanced (Levels 5-6): Prepares students for university lectures or employment, focusing on academic writing, debates, and professional Korean terminology.

Each term runs for 10 weeks, providing 200 hours of intensive training (4 hours per day, Monday through Friday).

Campus Life & Student Dormitories

Students enrolled in the KLI enjoy full access to Soongsil University's modern facilities, including the computerized Central Library, study rooms, cafeteria, and fitness center.

Soongsil boasts excellent on-campus housing options (Residence Hall) that feature modern amenities such as gym facilities, study rooms, high-speed Wi-Fi, and top-tier security. It is highly recommended for first-year international students seeking a safe and comfortable adjustment to life in Seoul.

Specialized Cultural & Support Programs

  • Korean Buddy Program: Connects international students with domestic Soongsil University students to foster language practice and cultural friendship.
  • Cultural Field Trips: Every term, the school hosts cultural activities such as Korean food cooking classes, traditional pottery making, Hanbok experiences, and visits to amusement parks or historical palaces.
  • Academic Pathways: KLI provides regular counseling sessions and information sessions for students wishing to advance to Soongsil's undergraduate or graduate schools, offering tuition waivers and admission benefits for outstanding KLI graduates.
